Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 oz Rittenhouse Rye whiskey
- pineapple chunks
- 2 mint sprigs
- 1 oz simple syrup
- 1/2 oz lemon and lime juice
- Splash of soda
Garnish: lime wheel and pineapple leaf
Muddle pineapple and mint sprigs with simple syrup. Add rye whiskey, lemon and lime juice to shake with ice. Pour into a highball glass. Top with club soda. Garnish with lime wheel and pineapple leaf on rime and serve with large straw.
History of Mint Julep
Mint Julep became Churchill Down's signature drink in 1938 when they started to serve the drink in sourvenir glasses for 75 cents a drink. Today Kentucky Derby serves more than 80,000 juleps over the two-day event.
