This is the nation's first distillery built in 1923, located just outside lively Osaka city. The famous Yamazaki whisky in 'Lost in Translation' is produced here. Visitor attraction includes whisky library, video exhibition and tasting. Yamazaki Whisky Centre stores more than 7,000 bottles of whiskies.

Located at the foot of Japan Alps, distillery produces light malt whisky with the water coming down from Mt. Kaikomagatake. Tour includes free tasting of Hakushu 12 yo. Suntory Whisky Museum at the distillery exhibits old bottles, historical documents and video presentations. With the two major plants in Yamazaki and Hakushu, there are total four aging warehouses owned by Suntory, aging more than 1.6 million barrels each year.

Located at west of Sapporo city, Yoichi Distillery was built in 1934, it is recognized as one of the nation's historic sites. In Whisky Museum that used to be an old warehouse, it showcases the history of Nikka company, pictures of founding father and his Scottish wife Rita, the first bottle of Nikka whisky and more.

Founder of Nikka was traveling through the area and saw the area surrounded by mountains and rivers. He immediately knew this was the perfect site for making mild malt whisky with Sendai's water, suitable humidity and crisp air and opened the distillery in 1969. The tour includes free tasting of Nikka whisky and apple wine produced at the distillery. Guest Hall sells local's favorite whisky ice cream and souvenirs.

Karuizawa Distillery

Karuizawa is one of the most popular mountain resorts in the country, located in Nagano prefecture. The company has been producing alcohol since 1935, but the whisky making didn't begin until 1955. The distillery's Karuizawa series are produced from imported Scottish malts.
